The Power of Prayer
By: Daniel Adams
I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven. — Matthew 16:19
Do you realize the power of that statement? As a child of God, your prayers affect decisions in heaven!
This power of prayer is so awesome that it releases angels to do God’s bidding on the earth and binds demons as it destroys the plans and purposes of the enemy!
Prayer – A Place of Supernatural Protection
“There is a path which no fowl knoweth, and which the vulture’s eye hath not seen: The lion’s whelps have not trodden it, nor the fierce lion passed by it.” (Job 28:7-8)
Job tells us there is a secret place available to the children of God. When we enter into this secret place, only then will we see the power of God activated on our behalf and on behalf of those who are in need.
There is a path, a place which no fowl knows. There is a secret place in the presence of God that is a glorious realm of security and protection that no demonic influence can enter. It’s a place hidden in God that no vulture’s eye has seen. No demon on earth or satan has seen or knows this place. It is a place of refuge and comfort, a place of safety that no lion (principalities and powers) pass by—not even the lion (Satan). That place is the place of sweet fellowship with your heavenly father.
The psalmist tells us it is in that secret place that you will find the Lord to be your refuge and fortress, and it is in that secret place that He covers you with His wings so that no evil will befall you nor will any plague come near your dwelling. The secret place and the place of God's power are found in the place of prayer.
Prayer – A Place of Deliverance
Job 28:9 tells us that “God puts forth His hand upon the rock and overturns mountains by the roots.” It’s only as we use the authority that God has given us in prayer that obstacles are removed from our path. It’s in this place that He makes a way of escape and sends His supernatural power to bring us out of trouble.
“He cutteth out rivers among the rocks, and his eye seeth every precious thing.” (Job 28:10)
The Lord has cut out and opened the river of his pure love and grace, which flows from the throne of God in heaven; and the fullness of His grace, which is as rivers of water in dry land; and the mighty Holy Spirit, which flows out of our lives as rivers of living water.
“He bindeth the floods from overflowing, and the thing that is hidden bringeth he forth to light.” (Job 28:11)
It’s as we seek the Lord that He binds floods from overflowing over our lives, protecting and keeping us, revealing to us His love and His will, for the thing that is hidden, He brings forth to light.
Prayer is the supernatural place in God where there is protection, deliverance, and revelation:
“He that dwelleth in the secret place of the highest shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust. Surely he shall deliver thee from the snare of the fowler, and from the noisome pestilence. He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust: his truth shall be thy shield and buckler. Thou shalt not be afraid for the terror by night; nor for the arrow that flieth by day; Nor for the pestilence that walketh in darkness; nor for the destruction that wasteth at noonday. A thousand shall fall at thy side, and ten thousand at thy right hand; but it shall not come to nigh thee.” (Psalm 91:1-7)
God has sent us an open-ended royal invitation in Jeremiah:
“Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and I will shew thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not.” (Jeremiah 33:3)
This scripture
Only as we live in the secret place of prayer in God (not like Adam who hid from God out of fear) can we find continual safety from harm. For God in His great love will lead us and guide us from all dangers, and he will remove the obstacle that the enemy has placed in our path. As with all promises found in God’s word, we have a part to play. He expects us to listen to His voice and hide in Him. It’s only prudent to know how to pray. The foolish neglect God and are punished.
“And call upon me in the day of trouble: I will deliver thee, and thou shalt glorify me.” (Psalm 50:15)
Prayer Drives Away All Fear
David the King of Israel said,
"Lord, how are they increased that trouble me! many are they that rise up against me. Many there be which say of my soul, there is no help for him in God. Selah. But thou, O Lord, art a shield for me; my glory, and the lifter up of mine head. I cried unto the Lord with my voice, and he heard me out of his holy hill." (Psalm 3:1-4)
David’s enemies had increased and were risen up against him. Trouble was all around. His enemies mocked his faith in God and said, “Who can help him now?” But David knew the secret of deliverance from trouble. He cried to the Lord and the Lord heard his cry.
We can experience God’s power as we call on Him in times of anguish and fear, for He is your shield and the lifter of your head. And as you seek Him with all of your heart, He will fill you with His peace and cause your sleep to be sweet as He holds you in His arms and sustains you in His presence.
There is such a glorious power of prayer! Great peace belongs to those who know how to call upon the Lord.
Confession: I live in the secret place of God's presence. I receive protection, deliverance, and revelation today and the enemy has no access to me because I am in Christ! Amen!
