Midnight Praise
By: Daniel Adams
And at midnight Paul and Silas prayed, and sang praises unto God: and the prisoners heard them. — Acts 16:25
Singing, praising, and thanksgiving all go together.
Paul and Silas had been beaten and thrown into prison, and their feet put into chains. But at midnight they prayed and sang praises to God — with a LOUD voice. It was so loud that other prisoners heard them!
Most people in these circumstances would have complained about this awful situation. If they had been like some Christians today, They would have said, “what are we going to do?” They would have said, “My back hurts. I don’t understand why God let this happen to us when we are trying to serve him?”
That kind of attitude and confession would have only made the problem worse! It wasn’t God who planned to have them thrown in jail; it was the devil, who uses people. There is a powerful reality for us to learn from here to help us in our darkest hour. When the storms of life come, that’s not the time to complain, that’s the time to pray, praise, sing, and give thanks to God!
Confession: I praise God at all times. I never have a victim attitude because I am a victor. I keep an attitude of praise at all times because the good God I serve is more than able!
